I am doing both modelling and experimental part of the project, but i was facing problems in setting up the experimental part.

I do have access to high speed cameras and data collection system. I still need to find accelerometers.

Another good sensor is a piezoelectric force transducer. You can mount one (or three) under a plate, and drop the handheld onto the plate and record the force-time transient and compare that with the simulation.

Hmm, thanks for the input, i am short on people with experience in drop test experimental setup. It will be great help if i can see the set up and how they actually conduct the experiment. Is it possible to suggest a company or place where they conduct drop test?

I can get official permission from my professor/college (MSME department SJSU).

You can also rent sensors that you need. I have rented from them before.
