SubscriberHi Win,
Thanks to your wonderful support, using MobaXterm from a client, now we are successfully able to open EnSight (having enterprise feature) installed on the server (Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6.10) without any license issue. Interestingly though the workspace doesn't show the model (please see the screen capture below). In the terminal, it say Xlib: extension "MIT-SHM" missing onl display "localhost:11.0"
Would it be related to OpenSSH on the server I presume?
Thanks again for your wonderful support!
Joe

Ansys EmployeeHi Joe,
It sounds like the DISPLAY environment variable is set incorrectly or the XServer that you are forwarding to does not support MIT-SHM.
Please note that X11 forwarding is not a supported remote visualization platform. Please see the supported types here:
https://www.ansys.com/-/media/ansys/corporate/files/pdf/solutions/it-professionals/platform-support/remote-display-virtual-desktop-support-192.pdf?la=en
Does it run properly on the Linux machine itself if you are sitting at it as opposed to remoteing into it?
Thank you,
Jake

SubscriberHi Jake,
If that's the case, could you get me any extra hints about what else I am missing based on what's happening here for two cases?
i) I've turned 10-yr old single core machine into a Linux Ubuntu server 16.04 (as a test server) and installed EnSight on it, and remotely connected to the server via MobaXterm and executed the EnSight. My client successfully opened the EnSight with no trouble.
ii) Now, the IT HPC center of my institute (see the server info in my previous ticket) installed EnSight per my request, and I did exactly the same via MobaXterm but got me that message.
Any idea? Thanks!
Joe

SubscriberHi Jake,
No I don't see any of those. It directly leads me to the login cursor standby after pw input.
Could it be due to the version (personal edition v10.4)?
Thank you,
Joe

Ansys EmployeeFrom the remote linux machine can you ping your machine:
ping 172.20.47.52
Does that work properly?
If you run the following on the remote linux machine, what do you get?
netstat -lp|grep -i x11
Lastly, can you run the following:
xclock
and then
glxgears
Does the clock and the gears show up on your machine properly?
Thank you,
Jake

Ansys EmployeeAlso one other thing to check.
In mobaXTerm if you go to Settings -> Configuration -> SSH
Is X11-Forwarding and Fix connection issues checked?
If not, please check them.
Thank you,
Jake

Ansys EmployeeHi Joe,
Unfortunately I can't download attachments to posts.
Could you post a screenshot of the attachment maybe?
Are you able to run any Ansys application from that linux machine?
Thank you,
Jake
