#### Extracting hole diameter

How do i calculate d1 and d2 in ansys workbench. I tried using the distance between nodes but the answer it gives is the distance between the nodes in the original geometry without the hole.

Hi Joe,

Does the hole exist in your model before deformation or it is generated due to failure in the material? You can extract directional deformation along x, y, and z of the nodes located at the end of the arrows in your picture to obtain the current location of the nodes. Next, calculate the distance of the two nodes using d = ((x2 - x1)2 + (y2 - y1)2 + (z2 - z1)2)1/2

Hi Joe,

• To measure the directional deformation of nodes in LS-Dyna follow these steps:
• Go to FEM>Element Tools>Measure on the top menu.
• Select Dist N2N as the type of measurement, which means distance between two nodes.

Choose the nodes you want to measure and hit plot. It’ll show the change of displacement between the selected nodes in time.
