SubscriberI have created a 3D wing containing ribs, spars, and longerons with the root chord, tip chord lengths, and half span of the wing as design parameters. Now I want to select the top and bottom surfaces of the wing to apply the face meshing operation and apply a pressure load on the bottom surface. How can I select these top and bottom surfaces (containing several faces) separately using APDL commands?

Ansys EmployeeHi Anirudh,
Why do you want to use APDL to select the faces? You can use select one face and then use Extend feature to select multiple faces.
You can use Named Selection as well: How to Create Named Selections in Ansys Workbench - Mechead.com

SubscriberThe problem is that my geometry will change, when i change the design parameters like the rib thickness value. When it changes, the faces that i selected to create the named selection changes. So all the bottom surface faces of the wing are not getting selected.

Ansys EmployeeHi Anirudh,
Under Named Selection for selecting the faces can you try assigning a range for variation in face coordinates? The reason being even in APDL you will have to select faces based on location or node ids (which again can change with a change in geometry).

SubscriberRange can't be used because it will select all the faces in between the specified range such as faces contained on the spars. But I only want to select those exterior faces on the bottom surface of the wing.

Ansys EmployeeAre the geometry changes parametric? Are the parametric changes leading to change in number of face and/or edges in your model? Whats the geometry editor that you are using here?

SubscriberYes, geometry changes are parametric and created using design modeler. Now when i change my design parameter, the no. of faces on the bottom surface of the wing changes.

Ansys Employeehave you tried creating a named selection in DesignModeler before you add the feature with parameters that changes number of faces?
