Flow direction and quality metrics

Hello all,   Some time ago I have some questions about the relationship between mesh quality and flow direction. At this time I know about 'geometrical' mesh quality metrics: orthogonality, asymmetry, etc.

But once we have the mesh quality metrics within the ideal values, doesn't the flow direction matter?, apart from the false or numerical diffusion effect related to the oblique direction of the flow on the surface of the control volume, is there any relevant parameters to improve the quality of the mesh?

Best regards and  thank you for your feedback.

It can, but that's why we have higher order numerics. It's also why we also consider aspect ratio when checking the mesh.

Note, you can have a mesh that passes all of the cell checks (ie all your cells are good) but is very poor because you've not resolved the flow.
