Fluent is unable to read .msh file

      Hi all.

I have created my mesh externally but when I am importing my mesh to Fluent, it gives the following error and same is the case for every node in the mesh.
ERROR: Can't read the co-ordinates for node 4555678.
      Your help is highly appreciated.

      Hi,

What is the extension of mesh file that you created and importing to fluent?

      Thank you

      Saurabh

      Hi

I created my mesh in OpenFOAM and converted it to Fluent format. The mesh obtained had extension .msh which must be fine but when I am importing my mesh in Fluent , I get the following error

Assuming the mesh is 3d, is there an error at the start of the read in process? The failure to read the coordinates could be a result of that.

The error starts in a similar fashion as posted in the screenshot above. Below screenshot contain ending lines though. Is there any chance this might be happening due to version incompatibility?

So no hints immediately before the coordinates fail to load? Will Fluent Meshing read the file?

Right....No hints before. I have tried importing in fluent meshing, ansys mesh, ICEM CFD but nothing is working out.

Then it would suggest the output from OpenFOAM isn't working as expected. Is it specific to this case or a more general issue?

Actually I have been trying this for the first time..so don't have much idea.

You may be better off creating the mesh using Ansys products. Otherwise, create a small mesh and see what happens.

I started meshing with Ansys products but everytime it gave a lot of errors. Eventually I switched to OpenFOAM but again I got stuck here.

      What errors?

Following errors were encountered during ANSYS Meshing:

      a) one or more entities failed to mesh.

b)one or more surfaces cannot be meshed with acceptable quality.

c)the source mesh cannot be correctly copied to the target surface.

d)a software execution error occured inside the mesher

OK, b & c are the parts to focus on. Why didn't the surface mesh, which is often caused by poor choices of cell size or corrupted geometry. The source mesh error can be either a geometry issue or linked to some of the automatic options in Meshing. For 3D we tend to use Fluent Meshing now as it's quicker.

Rob, I really appreciate you giving your time. I have tried Fluent Meshing too. But it gives unstructured mesh but I need hexahedral meshing.

Why do you need a hex mesh? We've been using poly mesh for several years and it's proving to be equivalent/superior to hex for accuracy whilst being a lot easier to do.

There are few problems I faced while using Fluent Meshing. In the last step of creating volume mesh, it takes a very long time or process does not even move forward. Secondly I do not get the desired mesh quality.

Also, I made some changes to my mesh and now it gives the following errors. Can you please help me out with this.

How much RAM have you got? Did the mesh pass the checks in Fluent Meshing?

32 GB RAM. Please note that above screenshot is for mesh I am importing, not the one I created using Fluent meshing.

Importing from where? If it's the OpenFOAM mesh read it into Fluent Meshing as the errors may be more diagnostic.

      Hi Rob

This is the error I recieve when I read the mesh in Fluent Meshing

Assuming you can read a simple mesh into Fluent it's likely a problem with the file or file format.  Please run through a tutorial to see if that works. Note, we're running 2023R1 now so you may want to look at updating the version.
