Hello Ansys student community,
I'm currently writing my master's thesis using Fluent and I've come across the following problem:

I would like to run my Fluent simulation from a Windows client via RSM on a remote Linux cluster. The connection between client and cluster is established via a VPN tunnel. Client and cluster access two different license servers. The client has access to a local license server, even if there is no VPN connection. The same applies to the cluster. On the cluster, PBS Pro is used as the Job Management System. The setup of RSM on the head node (Athena) and the client was successful (test successful, data transfer successful, ...). If I want to start a simulation from the Workbench (Solution Settings: Submit to Remote Solve Manager, RSM Queue selected, ...) the job is copied to the staging directory and added to the PBS queue (Assign Job ID, Status Running), but when I connect with the assigned Execution Nodes and take a look at the CPU load and processes, no Fluent process is started...

Unfortunately, I did not come up with a useful solution while checking the log data. Only these entries with the job ID were found in the log directory of PBS:

Do any of you have any idea why the Fluent process is not running? Where can I find more log data that could help me?

Hi Steffen,

There might be some clue on the RSM Job Report. 

On client machine (Windows) , open up RSM Job Monitoring, select the job that has the issue, click on the bottom pane, and right click and save it as html format. See if you can post the entire thing in this forum; otherwise, post the screenshot of the top part of it, as well as looking for the line that say 'final solver command' or 'final cluster command' , something along this line, and post the screenshot of that too.

Hi Win,

tanks for your response. This is the html file from the job. Some of the commands are in german language, I hope that's not a problem.

From line 597, I cut off the other commands. From there on it was only like in the lines before searches for the progress marker.

As you said there are some lines with 'final cluster command' but I can't find 'final solver command'.

sorry for the delay , I was out on vacation.

can you also post the content of "fluentLauncher.txt" in your 10.97.12.10RSMTempsschneiderzwpuadzy.05o or /home/RSMTemp/sschneider/zwpuadzy.05o . If it doesn't exist anymore, open RSM Configuration 19.0 -> File Management -> check the box that says "Keep job files in staging directory when job is complete" , then resubmit the job and post the content of "fluentLauncher.txt" in the new staging folder.

Additionally, what happens if you change the file transfer option to RSM Internal File transfer, then only specify the staging directory on the Linux cluster (/home/RSMTemp/sschneider/) and make sure that you open your Workbench-Fluent project from under C:Temp director 

Is VPN always required to connect to the network ? If possible, I would say it's best to try connecting 'directly' to the network without going through VPN, at least for now to minimize any potential issue with using VPN.
