SubscriberHi everyone. I started working on a fluid flow problem today. I am not familiar with the best ways to set up an internal fluid flow analysis but I've watched some videos here that helped. However, I have a question regarding the situation below. I am suppose to evaluate the mass flow and pressure drop as water leaves the pump and gets to nozzle heads. The system has multiple connectors and long hoses. As I extract the fluid volume, I encountered a gap if done separately. If I extract the volume with all components connected, I receive an error message stating that the components selected are not the same body. 1. Is there a different way of approaching this problem? 2. Are there any best practices regarding fluid flow analysis with connectors? Ps: I am using ANSYS AIM 2020 R2. I hope to hear from you. Thanks. -

From the cross-sectional image, it can be seen that some solid bodies are overlapping with the fluid region. I guess these solid bodies may have some problem with themselves, or while connecting with adjacent bodies. It's a bit difficult to understand the reason of failure without taking a close look at the model? Will it be possible for you to send the archived AIM project file (.wbpz) so that I can investigate this issue? I will send you a secure transfer link through email for uploading the file.

Ansys EmployeeHello SJ
Glad to know that you were able to extract the fluid volume.
Regarding the meshing query, what mesh settings are you using? Are you using predefined mesh settings, or have you specified your own settings? I think you need to use the Curvature sizing function as well as local sizings to refine the mesh in gaps and thin regions to generate a good mesh.
If the mesh is still failing with above mentioned changes, please upload it to the same secure transfer link and I will check it out.

Ansys EmployeeHello SJ
I reviewed the model that you sent and noticed some sharp regions which were causing issue while meshing. I removed those regions and was able to generate mesh successfully with 3 boundary layers. I am sending you the meshed model along with a ppt mentioning the cleanup steps through secure transfer.
