For limited number of periods, the best method is to use EME, where you only need to have the input part, the unit cell, and the output part. how many periods? What is the wavelength? if it is optical wavelength, you may have huge challenge simulating it in regular HPC. If it has many periods, you can approximate it to be infinite, so to refer the fiber Bragg grating example by simulating one one period.
