SubscriberWe are using the student version 17.1 and Directx 12 we have no offboard graphics card and it is not economically feasible to put in 30 computers as they are very expensive.
An error is occurring when you start Static Structural and it does not start.

Ansys EmployeeHi Domingos4799,
I'm not sure about 17.2 but the doc for 19.2 explicitly states supporting a minimum of DirectX11
https://www.ansys.com/-/media/ansys/corporate/files/pdf/solutions/it-professionals/platform-support/graphical-display-graphics-cards-tested-192.pdf?la=en
You can refer to this page for other platform support stuff
https://www.ansys.com/Solutions/Solutions-by-Role/IT-Professionals/Platform-Support
Now, for the error that you are seeing, graphics is definitely one of the most common causes of the issue but sometimes this can be caused by something else too. I would recommend to try other potential resolutions stated here
https://forum.ansys.com/forums/topic/installation-issues-and-starting-problems-geometry-editor/
and see if any of them help.
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Domingos4799,
Unfortunately, that means the issue is very likely related to the graphics. Have you tried updating its driver ?
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Domingos4799,
On one machine, can you tried installing a supported graphics card with latest driver installed and see if that helps ?
Thanks,
Win

SubscriberThe operating system is Windows 10 with DirectX 12 and the drivers are up to date.
The software should work even without an offboard graphics card as has always occurred with previous versions. If this does not happen, something is wrong with the software and Ansys should be fixed.
This type of error has been occurring with several versions after version 15 of the software, so it should be studied and corrected, as it is not always feasible and necessary to install a graphics card, as is my case, teaching the basics for a class of 30 undergraduate students, where the analyzes are very simple and therefore, not requiring intensive processing.

Ansys EmployeeHi Domingos4799,
Not all graphics cards have the same features at the hardware level. The Ansys Applications are high end graphics applications that require specific hardware features. As newer and newer versions of the applications are released, the software relies on newer and newer hardware features to help improve render quality and performance.
Can you please run dxdiag and post a screenshot of the "Display" tab? This will tell us which card you are running exactly.
Start -> Run -> DxDiag.exe
Additionally, please look in the Window Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application.
Locate the crash, and post a screenshot of the error in the "General" Tab.
If you see a crash in a dll that contains idx in the name, it is most likely a crash in an Intel Graphics driver. This is likely due to an intel card not supporting a needed feature.
Thank you,
Jake
