SubscriberI am using EME to calculate the losses transmission forward abs(S21) and I am using "conservation energy: make passive":
- What method should I use to calculate losses in long periodic structure?
- How many cells with different periods can affect the simulation results?
- What values of the mesh size should I use and how to setup the boundary conditions?
Here is the picture of the structure in EME:

Ansys EmployeeWe do not have a similar exmaple like this. You may need to have an executable definition of the loss.
each period will need 2 cell as you have set.
Mesh size and boundary conditions can be the default, or you can use more number of meshes.
One thing to note is, the locations of the ports are important, since the port needs to have proper modes. From your screnshot, it seems that the left port is on the graing, meaning the left most is a uniform waveguide. Similarly, the right most port is in air, so it cannot capture any waveguide modes. Please consider in reality how does this device work. Does it need input and output waveguides? if so, you will need to add such I/O waveguides. Otherwise the result may not be reliable.
