how to choose the number of shells (shell conduction heat transfert fluent)

      Hi everyone 👋

I am simulating heat transfer by convection in a pipe. The thickness of the wall is 1 mm and I will use heat transfer shell conduction.

      My question is :

may I consider one shell with a thickness of 1mm or divide this thickness into 2 or more shells?

Do you think that the number of shells can affect heat transfer across the wall?

      Thank you for your assistance

      Hello,

Are you talking about number of layers? If you have multiple layers (of different material) in actual case, you can model that by adding layers. Else, a single layer will suffice.

Hi, @Nikhil Narale Thank you very much. Sorry for the late response. Yes, I'm talking about the number of layers.

Should I mention to fluent the actual thickness of the material, please?

For only one material layer, you can define the actual thickness value. No need to add additional layers.
