SubscriberHi, I'm a complete beginner at ANSYS but need to conduct simulations as my role in my high school club, F1 in schools where we make and compete model race cars. My teacher required me to do simulations on a test thing, but I don't know how to do the contour he described. My contour that I could get working looks like:
And I can also make it look like this with the contour around the enclosure:
However, my teacher wants me to make the basic contour that looks like this:
I have no idea how to do this. I can only contour the enclosure, or the model inside the enclosure. How do I get that sort of thing my teacher is talking about? Is it a result of my bad meshing? (For the meshing stage I only clicked generate mesh, and I think I should've done more as people talk about how a good mesh is really important)

Edit: While I already made a post, would you all mind helping me with some tips on how to make my results better looking? (ie: Whats the best number of Contours, How do I get that scale from -40-100) Thanks again.

SubscriberAttached is a YouTube tutorial which shows you how to create the contour you wanted. So basically you create a plane and show contour on that plane. You can jump to the 14 min mark in the following video to see the CFD-Post related work.

SubscriberHi, I got stuck again. I learned how to use an isosurface or a plane and do it sort of, but I did it with the model hovering in the center of the enclosure. My teacher wants the car to be on the ground, so I made the enclosure y distance from the car very low, like .0001. However, now when I do the isosurface streamlines, vectors and contours, I get weird things. See below:
Streamline: Weird paths, all blue?
Vector: Nothing even loads?
Contour: One solid color, doesn't seem correct too
Heres the results from the floating one if you guys are interested
I think that most of the problems are due to my weird enclosure thing. Also, if theres anything else that looks like im doing wrong, I would greatly appreciate some advice!
(I may have also done something wrong, but I don't know what. I'd be glad to provide more screenshots/info if needed)

SubscriberSomething seems to have gone wrong in the setup. If you notice the velocity range of the floating one, it goes from 0 to 27 [m s^-1]. While the ground model has a velocity range of 0 to 3,50,000 [m s^-1].

SubscriberOh, I made the velocity from the inlet 25 in the old one but 20 in the new one. But that shouldn't matter too much right? Is the problem not due to the enclosure thing? How would I fix it

Subscriberdhua, the velocity inlet is definitely not an issue. Your ground model velocity has a max value of 3.5E+5 [m s^-1], which shows that something went wrong somewhere. Are you sure the geometry is in the correct units?
Alternatively, if you could attach your workbench project file so I could take a quick look at it? Please see the discussion here to create the workbench (.wbpz) archive file.

SubscriberOkay, I got it. Thank you so much for the support by the way, it is so helpful and it is making learning what I'm doing wrong so much less frustrating.
I don't think (maybe i am) I'm doing the geometry wrong, as I did the same for the floating one except for its enclosure. Heres the google drive workbench link:

SubscriberThe uploaded file consists only the workbench project (.wbpj) file. Could you attach the workbench archive file (.wbpz), which will make sure all your files are made available for review? Please see the discussion here to create the workbench (.wbpz) archive file.

SubscriberSorry, I don't get how to share a .wbpz file. I don't really get the instructions the discussion you linked provides for making the file. I found that I can go to file/archive, but then when i click my file: "car on ground_files", and try to archive it, it gives me the error message: "The archive file path must be outside current project files directory: car on ground_files".

SubscriberBased on the video file of you trying to archive the files:
Step 4: Rename it to some other name, say car_sim
This will create car_sim.wbpz. You can then share the file.

Id like to thank you for all this help. It is so kind of you to support me so much with my problems and it has helped with my learning so much. I still have no idea what I did wrong, but I uninstalled and reinstalled ANSYS, used space claim instead of design modeler to make the enclosure and boom.... the whole thing ran smoothly with the car on the ground. Still, thanks.
My biggest concern now is how to move out of the ANSYS academic license. I cannot import my club member's Fusion 360 designs into ANSYS because it exceeds the allowable geometry limits for the academic license. How much would a buisness license cost? I applied for the free license in exchange for a sponsership by my club, but they have not responded.
