SubscriberWe installed Ansys Fluid and Structures packages version 2022R1 on RHEL 8.1 OS. When fluent is launched I get the following message.
Connected License Server List:
ANSYS LICENSE MANAGER ERROR: Failover feature 'CFD Solver - Level 2' is not available.
When I see Ansys Licensing Client Settings
The server is up and shows the green checkmark. But I cannot select any User preferences.

Ansys EmployeeCan you post the output of the following:
/ansys_inc/v221/licensingclient/linux64/lmutil lmstat -i -c 1055@servername
(where servername is the hostname of your license server)
April 25, 2022 at 2:59 pmhopitigala
SubscriberI put the correct servername but didn't want to include the servername here
$ ./lmutil lmstat -i -c 1055@servername
lmutil - Copyright (c) 1989-2019 Flexera. All Rights Reserved.
Mon 4/25/2022 10:52
NOTE: lmstat -i does not give information from the server but only reads the license file. For this reason,
lmstat -a is recommended instead.
FeatureVersion#licensesVendorExpires

And I also issued the following
$ ./lmutil lmstat -c 1055@servername
and got the following.
lmutil - Copyright (c) 1989-2019 Flexera. All Rights Reserved.

Ansys EmployeeOn the license server, edit the license file and add
PORT=1056
to the end of VENDOR line, so it looks as follows:
VENDOR ansyslmd PORT=1056
Then verify that the PORT 1056 is added to Incoming and outgoing Firewall exceptions on the License server
Also, verify you can ping the license server from the client machine using the Hostname in the License file.

SubscriberThere are other windows machines that work without any problem. Why would this be a problem for only Linux OS. I just want to make sure that this wouldn't affect the Windows machines that are working fine already. I really appreciate it if you can let me know what really goes on.
April 26, 2022 at 12:11 pmGeorge Karnos
Ansys EmployeeAre the Windows machines running version 2022 R1 also?
2022 R1 needs to communicate to ansyslmd.
Seems to be a firewall issue of sorts.
April 26, 2022 at 12:34 pmhopitigala
SubscriberOkay. This makes sense. Those windows machines have version 19.2. I'll our network admin to change the file according to what you said before. I hope this wouldn't change anything for Windows machines.
April 26, 2022 at 12:37 pmGeorge Karnos
Ansys EmployeeShould not interfere with the Windows machines.
However, I recommend updating the License Manager on the license server to 2022 R1.

SubscriberThere are two different license files my administrator found.
ansyslmd.lic
and
Ansys_license_1111820_e6266d35.lic
They both have the lines that you mentioned above. So, which file should we modify with PORT=1056?
I appreciate your help.
May 10, 2022 at 3:36 pmGeorge Karnos
Ansys EmployeeAre they both still valid? If so:
Modify BOTH files, if they are both being used.

SubscriberI changed the Ansys license files, placed them in the correct location, and restated the license daemon. However, it still doesn't work. Now I get the following error message when fluent is starting.
ANSYS LICENSE MANAGER ERROR:Failover feature 'CFD Solver - Level 2' is not available.
FLEXlm server is not responding. Resource temporarily not available.
ANSYSLI_SERVERS: 2325@rosie.uindy-ad.uindy.net
FLEXlm Servers: 1055@rosie.uindy-ad.uindy.net
Hit return to exit.
Unexpected license problem; exiting.
The fluent process could not be started.
I can telnet ports 2325, 1056 from the client to the server.
But can't telnet port 1055.
May 11, 2022 at 7:40 pmGeorge Karnos
Ansys EmployeeIf the License files look as follows:
SERVER rosie.uindy-ad.uindy.net1055
VENDOR ansyslmd PORT=1056
Check firewalls. Ensure all ports 1055, 1056, 2325 are excluded.
Also, check the license.log file on rosie.uindy-ad.uindy.net for any errors when trying to start license manager
