I have problems with creating variable rounds on a crane hook

  With many objects (excep tvery simple objects) I am not at all able to apply variable rounds.
  
  I want to create variable radiuses on a cran hook (file enclosed)), but I am not able to.
  
  Can you help?

  It is probably because of the spline used to give the radius. And the variable radius applies along the line (or spline). I tried it with your geometry and I think it is doing it but not the way you intend. Try splitting the edge you are applying variable radius to and see if it works for you. Also if you could explain how you want the variablity, I can try it on my end as well.
