SubscriberI had set up my 3 hour (10800 seconds) transient simulation to save data periodically (say, every 5 minutes). “ANSYS AIM stopped working” before the simulation could finish so I had to close the program (without being able to save the updated project) but a couple of data files were saved before that happened. Now since the simulation could not finish so the “Flow” and “Results” components of the project are not updated so I can’t access any results from there. On the other hand, I do see some data/output files saved with extension “ *.h5 “ but I am not able to figure out how to import these data/output files to AIM for post processing. I am aware of how this works in ANSYS Fluent where I can import the case and “.dat” format data files easily.
I would really appreciate any help with this.

1) if not as ".H5" files, how is the data for transient time steps saved in AIM?
2) Except for whatever is there in the project file, are all other saved output files redundant?

I came to know from team that output files cannot be imported in AIM.

Please find below the response from development to your questions:
1) The transient time step data is stored in the H5 files.
2) The project file is like an index and references the other files in the project directory.
You need both the index and the data to be able to load a project, without both then you can't open your project. In the case where AIM crashed, you have the data but without the updated project file, no index and hence it can't be recovered.
As a slight correction to the understanding from the original statement: "I had set up my 3 hour (10800 seconds) transient simulation to save data periodically (say, every 5 minutes)". In reality this isn't to save data periodically to recover from it in the case of a crash - i.e. it's not auto-save. Rather, it's to store output at the specified interval so that results can be extracted and used for animations, etc.
If you continue to experience the crash, then please provide more details so that we can look into it and try to solve the root cause.

But since this output stored at specified intervals is rendered useless if the project is not updated (for any reason), like in my case, so is there any other platform like Fluent etc. which may still prove helpful in extracting and visualizing (e.g- animations as you mentioned) the saved outputs (minus the updated project/index)?

No. They need to re-run. If there is a problem getting this to run for the full length of the simulation, perhaps they could run for a shorter period, but keeping the output constant, then extend the duration. This should automatically resume from the last time point.
