Importing Inventor Geometry Issue

      Hi Everyone

I am using ANSYS to run simulations to test the strength of coronary stents using the static structural module. I am having trouble importing the geometries into ANSYS version 19.1, there seems to be an issue when I import the file. I am predominately using x_b and step files but I have also tried other file types with limited success. I have attached a file with some geometries.

s32.2 and s37.2 are cylindrical stents.

There was a slight problem with meshing in inventor and the solution was to export s32.2 and s37.2 as step files and then import them back into inventor. Once that was done I was able to mesh them in inventor. They are stents s32.2v2 and s37.2v2.

Stent s8 is a geometry made exactly like s32.2 and s37.2 but it is rectangular. This geometry has no issue with being imported into ANSYS 19.1.

So the main issue is that the cylindrical geometry isn't importing into ANSYS 19.1. I beleive the geometry is watertight since it was able to be meshed in Inventor. Also when I import the step and x_b files into Inventor or Solidworks the geometry imports fine with no issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks

Since the geometry imports cleanly into SolidWorks, export a Parasolid from SW and open DesignModeler, then Import External Geometry File. That is worth trying.

      Hi

Apologies for the late response. I tried a few different things for import the file into SW and then into design modeler. The parasolid files don't work but I managed to get the step files to work but I had to follow the following process. Inventor step file export with tolerance 0.0001mm -> import to SW -> import to DM as step file. I think it works now. If I run into any problems later I'll post again.

      Thanks for the help
