SubscriberI am having a problem with the installation of ANSYS 19.2 structures in Kubuntu 19.04.
Specifically, it is freezing at the following step:
AWPROOTDIR = /ansys_inc/v194
Creating ANSYS RSM Cluster Node Service script ...
Created service script: arcnode
I have seen this error on several boards without any solutions. I have tried all the fixes here, including the change of the sh call to bash, also with and without sudo.
Do you have anymore ideas for me. The commonly suggested solution of simply changing OS is not possible.
Thanks in advance!

Ansys EmployeeHi Edub,
Unfortunately Ubuntu is not supported. The installation scripts and the applications were not created with Ubuntu in mind.
Bash and csh scripts are not 100% compatible with Dash and WILL cause issues during install.
Even if you were to get through the installation you would likely encounter many issues with running the applications.
Please install a supported OS such as Centos7.6.
Unfortunately there isn't much else we can suggested.
Thank you,
Jake

SubscriberAs noted in my first post above, OS change not possible.
ANSYS APDL worked fine on previous versions Ubuntu. What happened here?

Ansys EmployeeTry this and if it still does not work, please use supported OS
Make sure you did run ./INSTALL with root privileges
Also, try
sudo apt-get install rpm
Does this install successfully ?
If you get syntax bad fd number , try (NOTE : replace the following with / )
ls -l binsh
If binsh is a link to bindash, change it to binbash.
sudo mv binsh binsh.orig
sudo ln -s binbash binsh

SubscriberOk, finally got this thing to work. All the installation craziness and bash/dash was in vain. Here is my recipe for ANSYS APDL in Ubuntu:
My versions:
ANSYS 2019r2
Kubuntu 19.04
sudo ./INSTALL
The installation will hang at the installation of arcnode at ca. 92 % completion. Simply close the installation window, ANSYS is now installed.
Now you need to change the ownership of the following folders:
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER ~/.ansys
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER ~/.config/Ansys
As I want "only" ANSYS APDL, this can be tested then with starting the ANSYS Launcher from folder belonging to the user:
~/opt/ansys_inc/v194/ansys/bin/launcher
(Replace $USER with your Linux user name.)
I could not figure out what was causing the arcnode to hang during the installation. As I will not be using this (and chose not to install this...), I also do not care.
