our customer wants to use ANSYS Discovery Essential only but the installation process is setting up both ANSYS Discovery Essential as well as ANSYS Discovery Standard generating error messages of not suitable graphics, etc. What can be done to install and run ANSYS Discovery Essential only?

      Hello  Ghost1246

Discovery SpaceClaim and Discovery Live both are bundled in a single package. The error messages related to graphics not compatible are associated with Discovery Live. Since customer wants to use  ANSYS Discovery Essential i.e. Discovery SpaceClaim, the error messages can be safely ignored. On the desktop, double click on Discovery SpaceClaim icon which will launch the application.

You may though want to check out the general hardware requirements for ANSYS Discovery softwares .

O.k. the customer has found both icons on the desktop for ANSYS Discovery SpaceClaim and ANSYS Discovery Live. He could accept the idea to ignore the ANSYS Discovery Live icon and error messages. But....when launching ANSYS Discovery SpaceClaim the system will start and show the structure tree but the graphics window is greyed and is not displaying anything. The GPU test has provided message below. Customer will switch hardware soon with a more suitable GPU but is not happy with the actual problem. Is there anything to do which will eliminate the problem. When testing ANSYS SpaceClaim before installing ANSYS Discovery SpaceClaim there was no problem with the software.

That utility is for Discovery Live requirements only, not Discovery SpaceClaim.

Discovery SpaceClaim's requirements are as follows (from the installation page):

      General Requirements

Minimum requirements for ANSYS Discovery software are as follows:

      • 64-bit Intel or AMD system, running Windows 7, 8 or 10.
      • 4 GB RAM (8 GB minimum for Discovery AIM)
      • A dedicated graphics card with latest drivers and at least 1GB video RAM, capable of supporting OpenGL 4.5 and DirectX 9c, or higher.  Use of integrated graphics (e.g. Intel HD/IRIS) is not recommended.  See below for special graphics requirements for ANSYS Discovery Live.
      • 3 button mouse

I suspect OpenGL is the issue; that card uses v3.2. You could try changing the rendering option to a Directx-variant in SpaceClaim > Options > Advanced section.

Customer problem is still not solved...

Customer received a standard ANSYS  SpaceClaim evaluation license ANSYS SpaceClaim 19.1, installed the software on his DELL-system, loaded all new NVIDA-drivers with DirectD3X9-graphics and could run ANSYS SpaceClaim without any problem. Then the  customer installed ANSYS Discovery SpaceClaim on the same machine but experienced new problems. The graphics window is fully transparent (see screenshot) and when clicking something with the mouse the system is crashing. Customer is wondering that ANSYS SpaceClaim is working properly but the same product (ANSYS Discovery SpaceClaim - there is no plan to use ANSYS Discovery Live) is doing crazy things. Do you have an idea?

Customer cannot even check the graphics driver version in ANSYS Discovery SpaceClaim as the system is crashing when using any command.

Please ensure that the customer has installed the Ansys SpaceClaim and Ansys Discovery SpaceClaim in different locations. Also, make sure that the installations have been done in administrator mode.

If the above step has been done correctly and the problem still persists, please ask the customer to open and close Ansys Discovery SpaceClaim (which is causing the problem) and send the latest log files from the location

        %AppData%SpaceClaimLog Files

(The file names will be like "RHSolver_date_xxxx.txt", "RHAppication_date_xxxx.txt", SpaceClaim_date_xxxx.txt")
