      Hi everybody

I am a French student. Sorry for my English which is not so good. I have a problem opening the software after downloading. I downloaded the Ansys Fluent 5.1.66x24 student version.
I don't find the software installed in my office abd nowhere in my pc.
Somedy can maybe help me please?
      Thanks a lot

No worries, I speak little to no French. And my French team leader can barely understand my (English) accent.

Assuming you extracted the downloaded zip. Run setup.exe as Admin, and install to C: whatever Ansys asks for. Provided you don't have any non-ASCII characters (e-ecute etc) it ought to work.

Does your username include a symbol above the e in Stephan? A lot of the Ansys tools don't understand non standard (English) characters and the Fluent message is St?phan which isn't a good sign.

The watertight workflow may not work on stl as it's a faceted format. Try fault tolerant.

STL is a faceted geometry format and can be of poor quality. The two workflows are good for most geometry cases, but there's also the tree (no workflow) if it's really poor.  What is the geometry of? SpaceClaim can patch the surfaces to give a "normal" CAD file.

Workbench should just "work". What errors are you seeing?

I didn't succeed to change STL to CAD file in SpaceClaim...

How can i Do it please?

      Thank you

The launcher error has been answered on here before (not by me) so should show up with a search.

Re converting stl (faceted) to traditional CAD, have a look in the Faceted tab in SpaceClaim. There's a "skin" tool, and from memory the documentation will explain how to use that. Otherwise you will need Fault Tolerant workflow.

Ok for the CAD file with SpaceClain, I'll try.

The Username is done via Windows, I can't help with that as I'm a cause of computer problems, not a fixer of!

Hi and thanks. I Know that you are not a fixer. I just want to understand what happens and why the softwrae doesn't work. Thank you.

OK, no worries. The software is designed to work with UNIX, some parts more than others, and doesn't understand most of the "odd" characters. That's not something I tend to think about as I used to use UNIX and DOS, so never add anything other than - or _ into any filename or path: I don't even use spaces which has been OK for about 5-10 years.

Ok. I changed my user name with as username "Stephan" and it's the same problem. Do you think that i need to download Unix and retry? thank's

Not if you're using Windows 10/11!  Rename the Ansys %appdata% too, that can corrupt and cause problems.
