Intel 12th gen P and E cores vs cores allowed in ansys

Intel now uses a mix of performance/ efficiency cores, and dynamically switches between them.

So when the processor decides to switch the process from performance cores to efficiency cores, could this cause a failure in the running of ANSYS as the original cores Handling the process have handed off some code to unregistered cores.

example if I have a license for 4 cores, and my processor has 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores what would happen after the first hand off ?

      Hello mathieu sauve

We have not had a chance to test our solver’s performance in the new Alder Lake processes.  Below is the developers note:

The OS will typically make the best decision to move our processes around to wherever they should be running.  For example, when heavy number crunching is being done, MAPDL processes should be on the performance cores.  And when idle waiting for GUI input they might move to the efficiency core.

I also wanted to know whether you already have the Intel 12th gen (Alder Lake processor), or if you intend to have it in future. Also what is your general use (which Ansys product, is it Discovery refine?)?

Michael Adel Shafik Let me check with the development, if they have any further information on it. Just to get clarity, I would like to know if you have a student license or a commercial one.

        Regards.
