issue with running Discovery products

      Dear Sir/Madam,

I have a subscription for Discovery Standard bundle. I downloaded and installed the Discovery products on my main workstation. When I start the Discovery Live software, I get prompted to the subscription sign-in window. After I sign in I get the error message: SpaceClaim 2019 R1 has stopped working. I am attaching the screenshot of the error message. I get exactly the same error on my other workstation. Both workstations have ANSYS R1 already installed on them, and both have Windows 7 Pro.

I did try to install everything on my laptop (Windows 10 Pro and with no other ANSYS products installed on it) - the installation works correctly there. Sign-in works and I can launch Discovery Live GUI there. Also my laptop has better graphics card than my workstations. Could graphics card be the reason for the issue?

Please let me know how I could resolve this issue on my workstation.

      Best regards,

In some past cases, I have found this problem is caused by old user settings files from a past installation of SpaceClaim.

If you had a prior installation, navigate to

C:UsersAppDataLocalSpaceClaim and delete all the folders located within.

If there are no previous versions of the software on the PC then there may have been a problem at the time of installation.

After downloading the installation ZIP file, make sure to extract it to a separate folder prior to running the installer.  You should also run the installer by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator.

Lastly, it is possible that outdated drivers on your graphics card may be causing a problem.  Please make sure the drivers have been updated to the latest version directly from the card manufacturer's website (i.e. nvidia.com).

      Brian,

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

      I tried you suggestions:

      -Cleaning C:UsersAppDataLocalSpaceClaim folder

-Updating graphics card drivers from the NVIDIA website

-Also, when I was installing the software I extracted the archived files to the separate folder and was installing it with 'Run as Administrator' option.

I still get the same error message: SpaceClaim 2019 R1 has stopped working.

I ran prerequisites checker for the Discovery on both of the workstations, and I get the following error messages:

1st workstation (with NVIDIA GT 610): Discovery Live requires a minimum of 4 GB of graphics memory. Discovery Live may not run properly because your graphics device does not have the minimum required memory.

2nd workstation (with NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800):  Unable to determine CUDA Version. Discovery Live requires CUDA version 9.1 or later. Please check for compatible devices or try updating graphics driver.

Could you please take a look at them and let me know if that could be the reason for the problems with opening Discovery Live. Also, do you think I could still use the Discovery with these graphics cards? I checked for the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800, this graphics card is not supported by CUDA version 9.1 or later, unfortunately.

      Best,

      Natalya

The minimum requirement for Discovery Live is 4 GB of graphics memory.

The GT 610 looks like it has 1 GB, which is well below the minimum.

The Quadro FX 3800 also has only 1 GB, so neither of these cards will work.

I can't be certain that the cards are causing Discovery Live not to launch at all, but I am certain that even if it did launch, you would not be able to use the program at all, unfortunately.

It is curious that when I check the graphics card info on my workstation from run -> dxdiag, and not from the Prerequisites checker for Discovery, I actually get 4GB memory information. I am attaching the screenshot. Why does the whole 4GB of memory cannot be used by Discovery products?

This is most likely the sum of the display memory and the shared memory.  Notice from mine it says ~ 48 GB, while the VRAM memory is 16 GB (+32 GB Shared).
