License issue related to VPN

Hello,nI was able to use ANSYS very well using my university's VPN. but I had a larger simulation running and my system hanged. So I had to force shut my computer and restart to work with my simulations. Since then, I am able to use Ansys Maxwell, and perform a 'validate' option. But when I do a 'Analyze all' I get the error below. n_______________________________________________________nMaxwell2DDesign1 (ACConduction, XY)n  [error] Failover feature 'Maxwell 2D Quasistatic Solver' specified in license preferences is not available. Request name m2dfs_qs_solve does not exist in the licensing pool. Feature has expired. Feature:   m2dfs_qs_solve License path: 1055@ENGR-LICENSE3.ENGR.UCONN.EDU; FlexNet Licensing error:-10,147 For further information, refer to the FlexNet Licensing documentation, available at www.flexerasoftware.com. (3:57:01 PM Feb 02, 2021)n  [error] Simulation was terminated by license error. (3:57:01 PM Feb 02, 2021)n. (2:19:39 PM Feb 02, 2021)n  [error] Simulation was terminated by license error. (2:19:39 PM Feb 02, 2021) n______________________________________________________nI looked at google for some help and found this https://forum.ansys.com/discussion/20421/cannot-do-analysis-a-problem-related-to-ansys-maxwell-license, I followed what Array wrote here. Tools -> Options -> General Options -> Desktop configuration, then check the first box for enabling PPE license mode. nBut, I do not find 'enable PPE licensing option' in Desktop configuration in ANSYS Maxwell. I use Ansys EM 19.5. nAny help would be greatly appreciated! Array n

It seems like the borrowed license was not released on the server to the license pool when you forcefully aborted the operation. nThis is a common problem, I was complaining on it here, but Ansys strongly opposes changing the current outdated license negotioation model. nYou need to wait for an uncertain period of time, and if the license is not released by timeout before the evening, ask someone to restart the license manager, or simply the server machine.nnHow license roaming works in simple words:n-client asks for particular licensen-server finds it in the pool and places for the client.n-when the client finishes the execution of the component, it tells the server.n-server releases the license for further use to the pool.n- if there was no communication from the client, server may wait for a timeout and release a license, or may not. It is not clearly defined in manuals.nIf the client silentlybreaks a licensed process, then reconnects with a new process, the server tries releasing a new license from the pool, and throws and error if it is empty. The previously borrowed license remains in the void since the client-server negotiation mechanism does not support any client fingerprint identification and execution state exchange. That's the main problem with ANSYS products in large unreliable networks, including VPN. You have to keep someone sitting at the server constantly pushing restart button.n

The problem you are encountering is that the licensing has changed and a new license file has been issued to UConn. If the license has been installed, you will not be able to run Maxwell v19.5. The new licensing will require you to upgrade to version 2020R1 at a minimum and go to Tools -> Options -> General Options -> Desktop configuration, then check the first box for enabling PPE license mode. The Electronics product releases prior to 2020R1 cannot run with the new PPE license. nIf you encounter any issues following the update to a newer version, please share the message.Thank you,nMattn

Thanks for your input THe problem has been resolved now. It was an issue with license and its compatibility with Ansys version n

??? How can this be? Ansys licenses are issued by distributors in complete packages. If the license version and the manager were updated, not only the solver, but the editor, including the validation tool can not be started. If the license version is compatible with the older software, everything should run like nothing happened. Isn't it?n

Electronics product licensing was changed at 2020R1 and customers are migrating to the new product license packages. The new license features are not supported for versions prior to 2020R1. If customers still have the old license packages there's no need for any changes, but academic products are migrating for users as renewals or new licenses are issued.n

Yes, I mean exactly that. If the license was changed, there is no way that the CAD editor works, and the solver does not. Both should throw an error and shut down.n

It depends on what (and how) the calls are made. Fluent solve can fail if you only have a pre-post licence but the whole solver software loads onto the desktop, it's just one button that won't work. n

The problem here had nothing to do with the VPN but rather a change in the licenses. The license changes only affected the Solve for most electronics products, so the Electronics Desktop could actually be opened and Preprocessing performed. Errors are seen once the user tries to solve, prompting the selection of the PPE box.n
