‘Line Chart’ result discontinues (dashed)

      Hello,

I am working on a CFD study in AIM of extracting the pressure forces on the surfaces of solar panels under different layout arrangements.

This is a quasi-2d transient setup which in every aspect worked fine so far (e.g. I was able to get Contour plots, Calculated Values etc.), but once I try to extract e.g. the pressure on the top surface of the 1st panel using 'Line Chart' feature I get a 'dashed' representation - see attached image. I did not have problem with it, I thought this is only a representation, but once I export the chart to CSV file and open it on Ecxel I can see that there are values missing for some locations - see the attached image with Excel (yellow lines).

I also attached a link for the archive file w/out results: https://we.tl/t-bffEY9IjLP

Can you please what's the reason for this?

      Regards,

      steelxpert

      Hello steelxpert

If you slightly move the construction line within the domain, you will get a continuous line chart. Go to Line geometry and change the Construction method to "Coordinates" and slightly increase the Y coordinate value. For instance, change the Y coordinate value of point 1 from 4.6195m to 4.6196m and the Y coordinate value of point 2 from 3.2249m to 3.225m. See below image showing these changed values and the corresponding line chart plotted for this updated line position. Note that the solution was partially solved only to display the line chart.

      Hello  Naresh Patre

      Thank you for the response.

Yes, I can do that, but:

1.) Can you explain what's the reason for that? Is it a bug that I should report? The geometry is 'precise' and I used the edges within the geometra to be the basis points for the line definition. I think there is an inconsistency in the features of the program. Please comment.

2.) Again, I will try to move the line definition points accordingly, ut here is another question that come up in the meantime. As you can see, in my definition, the result is extracted at the 8s time instant only. But i check the box for 'Perform evaluation for full range' the whole Result postprocessing starts over (it took my machine about 8hrs to re-process the results), but in the end I can only see the result at the very end of the simulation (8s). This is again an inconsistency in my feeling.

It should be so, that after  'Performing evaluation for full range' I should have access to all line charts for each and every time instant within the performed range. Also I should be able to run animated line charts and most importantly, to be able to save results in CSV file, the easiest in a matrix format where:

      - 1st column corresponds to the local coordinate within the line definition

      - 2nd..(n) columns should correspond to the instant results based on my 'Output control' settings.

      Can you please comment it?

      Regards,

      steelxpert

      Hello steelxpert

Regarding point 1 and 2, I will check with the development team and let you know.

About the CSV file format, currently it only includes the distance and the variable values. We will share your idea with the product development team for having the CSV file include the coordinate data as well.

      Hello Naresh Patre

FYI: the CSV format already includes the 'Distance' that is the 1st columns.

      See attached sample file.

      Hello steelxpert

Regarding point 1 (discontinued line chart), I have submitted bug 153401 for this issue.

Regarding point 2, I partially solved the model and upon updating the Line chart (with Perform evaluation for full range' enabled), I am seeing different results at different slider position. Please see a couple of snapshots below showing the line chart at 2 different timings. Can you again cross-check at your end?

      hello Naresh Patre

      Thank you for your respond.

I can send you (tomorrow) the results at my end, but I don't think it is necessary: since the problem is transient in nature and the flow is fluctuating around the panels the pressure distribution is changing instantly.

Concerning point2.) I'll try to be more specific.

My problem is: if I set up a transient problem with postprocessing the instantenous changing behaviour of a physical property (e.g. pressure along the line) defined by the 'Line chart' by checking also the 'Perform evaluation for full range, why couldn't see the results for all the time domain? I expect to see the animation toolbar, or at least have access to save the all the instantenous curves e.g. in a matrix format (see my original post).

This is not happening. Why not?

I know that in Discovery Live for a similar setup one can see the instantenous 'fluctuations' of the physical property related to the curve presented on the 'Line chart'. Why isn't this available in AIM?

I hope I managed to express the problem more clear.

      Hello steelxpert

I don't think Animation option is available for line chart. It is only applicable to contours, vectors and other such graphical results. but let me cross check with the development team and get back to you.

      hello Naresh Patre

The main functionality that I miss is the possibility of being able to save the charts for each time step has been set up in the Output Controls (not the animation).

      Hi steelxpert

I am checking if this is possible through scripting and will let you know.

      hello Naresh Patre

Can you please update me on this matter.

I'd like to proceed further, there is a huge amount of data that is waiting for further postprocessing, if that is possible within AIM as it is now at all.

      Thanks,

      Csaba

      Hello steelxpert

I will follow up with the development again and let you know. Please note that the dev team is currently busy in the release of next version due next month. So, your patience is highly appreciated.

      Hello Naresh Patre ,

Any luck with the R&D team regarding my problem?

The new version is out, so they could provide an answer hopefully.

      Regards,

      Csaba

steelxpert Please find attached a sample script which exports line chart in csv format for each time interval.
