MicroCT to STL to Ansys-compatible mesh?

      Hi there,

I'm totally new to Ansys (and FEM in general) and am struggling a little bit with a new project. Please point me in the right direction if this has been addressed already.

I have microCT images from a mechanical test experiment I performed, and can reconstruct them and export them to an .stl model of the original construct. I would like to use Ansys to simulate the same test (uni axial compression) on the models and then compare the results to the real life.

I have Ansys student and Discovery Aim. In Ansys student, when I create a static structural method and click geometry, it opens SpaceClaim and then I can import/open the stl file of my model, which then shows up in the workspace with some default mesh already applied to it.

What do I do from here? More specifically, once I've gotten to this stage, how do I get from here to creating the simulated compression test?

The default mesh you're seeing in the stl faceting. That is unlikely to be good enough to build a 3d mesh and run. If you've not used the software before, click on Help. This will take you to some tutorials and videos etc: watch the videos & do the tutorials.
