Modifying a Beam Geometry Manually

    • learn13

Say I had a 2-noded beam from (0,0) to (1,0) in Static Structural.  After performing all sort of wonderful analysis I decide I want to move the end node from (1,0) to (0,1).  Not in any kind of deformation analysis, but as a modification to the initial underlying geometry.  Is it possible to do so in a written .dat/.inp file (Solution>Tools>Write Input File) or by a similar written process in Ansys or Matlab if that's an option?

I'm aware of the node move function and that creating a new geometry is an option, but that's not the question as the project this pertains to is more complicated.

Written .dat/.inp files have worked with simple boundary and force modifications after using command prompt to obtain the .db.  But geometry modifications appear to be disallowed.  With the exception of removing entire sections of continuous elements, although the results are not 'patched'.

I don't understand what you need to do outside of ANSYS, but I will show you what can be done inside ANSYS to run an analysis and automatically move the endpoint and run another analysis.

This website is too fragile to accept content that includes parentheses and equals signs, so unzip the attached Word document to read my comments.
