Natural frequency from mass and stiffness

Hello,
I am trying to perform finite element model updating on a simple cantilever beam.
The first exercise i'm trying to do is to extract mass and stiffness matrix from a 20 element cantilever beam modal analysis from Ansys.
and then use eigan function in matlab to extract nature frequencies and mode shapes. but what i have observed is that the initial natural frequencies obtained through matlab are not matching with the natural frequencies from Ansys. in fact the first mode has only imaginary part
can someone please explain why this is happening!
