SubscriberHi there,
I do realize this is an NVIDIA driver issue, but I wanted to bring attention to an apparent issue with the latest GeForce Drivers (in this case Studio Driver 451.77). In short, the excellent Discovery 2020R2 loses its graphics entirely with this new driver. The older driver works OK, which is a mild workaround as this doesn't support the new Windows 10 Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling. Can you guys at ANSYS ping NVIDIA and look into it? Here's what it looks like:

SubscriberHello TEN TECH LLC ,
Thanks for bringing this to our notice,
This issue has been noticed before as well, and our developers and testers have tried the GeForce Driver 451.77 with Discovery, it does work for some machines, hence might not be a general issue. There could be other factors involved as well, which the developers are investigating.
Are your CUDA drivers up-to-date?
I will let you know if I get any further information regarding the progress.
Regards.

SubscriberCharudatta Bandgar Thanks for the quick reply. The machine in question is a laptop with an RTX 2080 Max-Q. Discovery Live works perfectly, but not Discovery so I'm not sure if it's a CUDA issue... I'll check on another machine with GeForce to see...

SubscriberCharudatta Bandgar Tried it on a Desktop GeForce 2070, and Driver 451.77 and it works as designed, so you're right, something's up the Mobile version of the card/driver combo!

One way to determine if it's GPU specific is to disable GeForce on the laptop (with hardware GPU enabled) and then try to load geometry. Can you please try doing it?
Regards.

SubscriberCharudatta Bandgar If I force Discovery to run off the Intel UHD Graphics card, the graphics are back. BTW, driver 451.48 is as bad as 451.77. I guess the whole 451 branch has an issue...

SubscriberI tried the Gaming Driver latest (451.67) to no avail, still no graphics in Discovery. Reverting back to 442.92 Studio Driver, the last one to work with Discovery... 3 months old driver that doesn't support GPU Scheduling on Windows 10 :-(

SubscriberJchokan looks like the 45x.x series was a "no", but I'm now running 460.79 and got my graphics back! Feels good to have a driver that's not 8 months old :-)
