SubscriberI was having trouble getting OpticStudio to recognize my recently acquired 3 month license, and kept getting an error that read "One or more Ansys Zemax products were detected, however the license is expired or unable to be used". Under the Optics Launcher, I was evaluated for a 1 month lease of OpticStudio, and a file called license.lic was generated. Within this file, I was instructed to copy and paste its contents into the existing license file. This new file contained increments for zos_level1, level2, and level3, however I did not notice that my original license file had these increments already present. Upon reuploading this licence into the license manager, I tried rerunning OpticStudio again but am now told that all licenses are currently being used. When I checked the FlexNet Publisher's 'features in use' section, I noticed that it says "Users of zos_level1: (Error: 1 licenses, unsupported by licensed server)" for the three zos_level entries. I tried a fresh reinstall of everything and reuploaded the original license file, but the license manager seems to have a memory of the modified file, seen within the ansyslmd.lic file under "View FlexNet Licenses" in the license manager, and OpticStudio keeps giving me these errors when trying to run it.

Ansys EmployeeHi Fernando,
Can you update your License Manager to the latest version? And also which version you are using for the application?

SubscriberI am currently using release 2023 R2 of the license manager and OpticStudio, I believe these are the most up to date versions.

Were both the license generated for the same machine's hostname and with the same disk serial number?

Ansys EmployeeHi Fernando,
On the License server side can you goto C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\license_files and check if ansyslmd.lic file is the latest one? If not then upload the latest file on License Manager.
On the client side C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\Licensing and open ansyslmd.ini to check if client is pointing to the right server.

SubscriberThe ansyslmd.lic file appears to contain all license files that have been uploaded to the license manager, not just the current file. The first license that is displayed is the correct file. Could this be the source of the error? Or should this file normally display a "license history."
As for ansyslmd.ini, I believe that it is pointing to the correct server. The server is localhost, and the port number matches that of the license file (located immediately after the disk serial number). -

Ansys EmployeeHi Fernando,
Can you please reupload both the license files and restart the LM? Keep only the licenses which are required and are valid
Unsupported means either expired/not started/old LM version.

SubscriberI have tried restarting the LM, but this did not resolve the issue. When you say to keep only the licenses which are valid, do you mean to delete the invalid license files off the computer, or to delete the invalid portions in the ansyslmd.ini file which currently contains several licenses within it?
Below is the full file from the previous screenshot. The file, generated by the Optics Launcher, was named lisence.lic, and when had uploaded it to the license manager it instructed me to append it to the original license. I do notice now that while not explicitly labeled as disk serial number, the number immediately following the server name does not match the serial number in the original license file. The modified license file (with the below appended onto it) does match the original serial number.

SubscriberHi Rajeshwari,
Thank you very much for your assistance, the errors are no longer present in the FlexNet License display!
I do, however, still have a final issue, whenever I try to open OpticStudio, I am met with this message:
The license manager is running properly without errors, but I will get this message whenever I try to run OpticStudio with either the Ansys Client Settings or the Optics Launcher Settings. Under the Ansys Client Settings, I am connected to the correct port, 1055, and the correct server, localhost, but am still unable to run OpticStudio despite having zero isntances of it currently running. The computer was restarted, but nothing has changed.

SubscriberThe utility did not pop up when running OpticStudio as an admin, but I did pull up the licensing tools in the Optics Launcher, pressed on "Open Ansys Client Settings" and changed the port name to PHYS-S675, and got a green check after pressing "test". I restarted the program but got the same error when running OpticStudio, even as an admin.
When switching to the Optics Launcher Settings, I also changed the server name to PHYS-S675, and got a similar result. I do notice though that despite the connection being active, under Domain it says "server unreachable or licenses could not be found". Could this be the issue?

Ansys EmployeePlease provide screenshots of both output:
- Are you able to ping or telnet your server, in the command prompt try using cmd “ping servername” and “telnet servername 1055” .
To ON telnet service go to start àsearch “Turn Windows feature on or off” àcheck box “Telnet Client” and click ok.
Please let me know if you are able to ping and telnet.
If you are not able to telnet, then check PORTS and Firewall exceptions. Make sure Ansys default ports(1055,2325,1056) are open in the firewall. (Both on the client and server side it should be opened).

SubscriberLicense Manager, Optics Launcher, and OpticStudio are all installed on the same machine. I was originally using localhost as you show, but this gives the same result as using PHYS-S675. I do not have the second option for entering a path to the license file.

Ansys EmployeeHi Fernando,
Can you try to install 2023 R1 once and check if you are facing same problem with it? and also through start menu can you expand Ansys Zemax OpticStudio 2023 R2 folder to check if you see licensing utility over there?

SubscriberI was able to add ANSYSLMD_LICENSE_FILE as an environment variable with the path to the license file, as seen below, but this did not result in any change. I can try installing 2023 R1 and see if it works. I've also attached the folder items in the start menu for OpticStudio 2023 R2, the Licensing Client Settings program is the same as what opens when "Open Ansys Client Settings" is pressed in the Optics Launcher.
