SubscriberDear
Could someone help me in the simulation of a weld line through the middle of a plate 170 x170 mm with thickness of 3mm
Thanks

SubscriberPlease insert images into your reply of a cross-section of the weld bead. What profile was put on the 3 mm edge thickness prior to welding? What is the material being welded? What is the welding method?

SubscriberJose, please type text into the post, don't paste it from another program, it is difficult to read.
Don't attach an image. Use the Insert Image button to put the image into your post.
Finally, learn how to create a screen snapshot that has the image filling the frame. The image you attached has a huge white border. Don't do that.

SubscriberThank you for fixing the image white border issue, that is great. Now stop pasting text into the post. If you want, you can paste it into the Notepad application, then copy of our Notepad and paste it into the post
Looking at the image of the weld, it does not have sufficient detail about how the edges of the plates were prepared and what the shape of the weld bead is above the surface of the plates.

Thanks for the directions. It is a weld bead on the flat plate without intermediate joint preparation.
Soon the shape will be half cane.

Do you know how to create a solid model in SpaceClaim? If so, draw the plate and draw the bead on the top. If you don't know how to use SpaceClaim, there are links to tutorials on the right side of this web page.
Does the arrow on your drawing show the direction of force?

SubscriberI am learning, I already launched the board and tried to insert the path of the weld but could not yet to this direction shown in the scheme drawing. would you post what I already did?

SubscriberYou really need to develop basic CAD skills in order to build simulation models in ANSYS. Spend a few hours on tutorials for SpaceClaim and come back with your progress.

SubscriberIf you want to simulate the transient heat flow from a weld bead to the rest of the part, you have to have the solid body weld bead have an Initial Condition of a high temperature and the rest of the plate have an ambient temperature. Please show how you did that? The weld bead cannot be a line, it must be a solid body because a line has no mass. Please show a close up view of the weld body. You can even make it simple to model in SpaceClaim, just draw a 3 mm square section and put the two plates on either side. Go to the Workbench tab in SpaceClaim and use the Share button to create Shared Topology so the heat can flow from the 3x3 weld bead to the rest of the plate. It would be best if you had 6 elements through the 3 mm thickness, but you will quickly exceed the Student license limit of 32,000 nodes or elements.
Since you are on the Student license, do a 2D plane model instead. Have a 3x3 mm square surface and 50x3 mm rectangle surfaces on each side. These must be drawn in the XY plane and you must set the Geometry property of the Geometry cell in Workbench to 2D. Then in Model, you can mesh with 0.25 mm element size.
