Precise volume mesh

      Hi

I wonder where I can find information about the precise volume mesh and it's refinement number, difference between using a volume mesh and a conformal mesh

It is in this page https://optics.ansys.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034382614

This method is suggested to be used for photonic inverse design, not for every simulation, as it uses some kind of average method.

I strongly suggest you to use conformal meshing methods:

To reduece the difference, you may need to use finer mesh.

      Yes

I have seen this recommendation but I just want to understand the math and science behind it. Is it explained anywhere ( specifically for metasurfaces)

      Thank you

Unfortunately no. I believe it is simply the averaged refractive index inside the mesh volume. The  photonic inverse design example uses fixed value of refractive index, not dispersive model.
