Pressure drop

      Hello,

I'm new using Discovery AIM and I'm not sure if this is able to give me what I want. I'm designing a Self Acting Pressure reducing valve. What I want to know is if AIM is able to give me the outlet pressure depending the position of plug. For example, if

in the valve is entering 8 barg and the position of the plug is in the middle of its stroke (4 mm), what is the outlet pressure?

      Thank you so much,

      Hello C. Rabadán

I have created a sample simulation similar to your model. You can use a similar set up for your model with suitable inlet and outlet boundary conditions to determine the Pressure at the outlet.
I hope you find this example helpful. Please let me know if you have further queries.

        Hello @Subashni

First of all, thank you so much for your help with this matter. I have been studying your model and there is something that I don't understand. Could you explain me why in the Opening 1 configuration, X is -1 m s^-1?

Then, I have been analyzing the Geometry with Space Claim and I see that the valve is practically closed, there is no so much lift. Why I'm telling that? Because then, the result of Pressure Drop is only 0,01 bar (1064,1 Pa), that is to say, flow at the inlet is 8 bar (800000 Pa) and at the outlet is 7,99 bar. I find this very strange...

        I'm uderstandig the results correctly?

      Hello C. Rabadán

The example I shared was meant to help you understand how to set up the model. You will need to set up a boundary condition at the faces as shown in the example. As I do not have enough information about your model, such as Fluid properties, boundary condition at the exit face, dimensions of the Valve setup etc, I have made assumptions and entered arbitrary values for the same.
The example was not meant to be a direct comparison to your model. I would recommend you to make a similar set-up in your model and compare the results to your realtime simulation.
If you face any issues with the same I may be able to help you further if you can share your actual model.

        Subashni Hi again,

I make your setup in my model, the unique change is that I will be working with air or sat.steam. In this case I'm working with air. Results could be correct, my valve is losing around 11 bar in this plug position.

I was doing something very similar but the difference is in the -1 m/s in the opening.

I share my model if you want to check.

Thank you so much for your time!

      Hello C. Rabadán

Glad to know that you are seeing satisfactory results using Discovery AIM. If there is no further query I can mark this post as "Answered".
