Why is the pressure gradient term in the Navier-Stokes equations negative? TIA

Consider a 1D case with the convective and pressure terms. If the derivative of the velocity is positive, then the derivative of the pressure is negative. This is the expected result by physical intuition, and it is essentially the Bernouilli equation (in this case the derivation is based on projecting the momentum equation onto a streamline).n
