We are having problems with our new license.dat file.  This is the error we are getting:

We are trying to combine our student licenses with the research license (with a different customer id  number) that we already have running on the server.  What is causing the Invalid license key problem? Do we have the correct license server version?

Hi James,

You can't combine student (free) license with research license. ANSYS Student (free) version has a 'built-in' license in the installation package. You don't have to host its license on a license server.

Now, for your academic research license, make sure that you are installing the license on the machine that the license file is issued for.

Check the first line of the license file (the SERVER line) and see if the hostname and the 'hostID' is correct.

Thank you for your reply.  It turns out that we do not have the "Free" Ansys Student version. We have the Academic Advanced Teaching license (aa_t_a) of Ansys:

Is it possible to combine the research and Academic Teaching license or do we have to have separate servers?

Hi James,

Check the first line of these two license files and see if the 'hostID' is for the same machine. If not, you can't manually combine them but you can ask your ANSYS Account Manager to combine them (reissue a new combined license file) for you.
