Problems Meshing – Running out of usable memory

      Hi,

I am having some issues meshing my model. In the past it has not been as issue but now for some reason I am getting the following message.

"A software execution error occurred inside the mesher. The process suffered an unhandled exception or ran out of usable memory."

Now I have since increased my usable memory (previously set at 25% but now up to 95% (25gb of available ram)) but I still get the issue. i can only assume that the issue is with the "suffered an unhandled exception".

Could someone please shed some light on this matter for me please?

      Thank you

      Ryan

      Hi Ryan,

When I have had that error in the past, it was because of some defect in the geometry. After I cleaned up the geometry, the meshing went smoothly.

First check geometry in DesignModeler with Tools -> Analysis Tools -> Fault Detection. Geometry should not have any errors before going to meshing.

SpaceClaim has many geometry repair tools and you should apply all of them, then try again.

If that doesn't work, in Mechanical, you can Insert Virtual Topology then run that on your geometry and that might help also.

Hi Peter, all always, thanks for the prompt response.

I always modify my geometry in Spaceclaim (start with multiple surfaces and after I have used the repair tools i end off with one single surface per part.)

, Ill give Designmodeler a try and see if it helps my issue.

I have since this inital post had some luck generating a low relevance mesh (-100 scale) by selected "yes" to the "topology checking" option within the advanced tab within the mesh parameters.

mesh is smaller than I would like it to be but it runs nevertheless.

I will also look into the virtual topology also.

      Thanks again
