Radiation of antenna circuit assembly

Are there any options to see the radiation patterns of a circuit containing an antenna and non-radiating circuit pasrts with lumped components (mainly .s2p file)? If so, kindly give the link to any documentation or video.

      Hello,

Please go through the Cosimulation Using Ansys HFSS AIC course below:
Cosimulation Using Ansys HFSS - ANSYS Innovation Courses

      It may answer your questions.

      Thank you,
      Chinmay

Thanks for your help, but I need something different.

Suppose, I have some circuits based on microstrip and I have to insert s2p files in few locations of the circuit. Now, I want to to see the radiation pattern of the circuit.

Here, I found that some kind of grouping is done between pure circuit parts and pure EM parts while I can not separate them in groups in my case.

      Hello,

Are you implementing any microstrip based elements and antenna in Ansys HFSS as separate designs?

If that is the case, you can insert all these HFSS designs directly in AEDT Circuit and do the cosimulation as suggested in the video. Here you don't need to insert separate s2p files.

      Hope this is helpful.

      Thank you,
      Chinmay

Suppose I have some circuits based on microstrip and I have to insert s2p files in a few locations into the circuit. Now, I want to see the radiation pattern of the circuit. I cannot separate them into groups. I have to simulate the whole assembly with s2ps at different locations and observe the radiation pattern of the whole assembly.

Or, you can think of an antenna where some of the metal portions of the radiator are etched out and SMD components are inserted. Those SMDs are touchstone (.s2p) files. In that case, how can I see the radiation pattern of the embedded s2p-radiator?

      Hi,

The touchstone files only save the S-parameters of the devices which are in terms of the transmission and reflection characteristics of the device. This s2p file cannot determine the radiation properties of the device. Also, it is recommended to do the full 3D simulation of the radiator to determine the radiation properties.

I would suggest you to go through the following AIC courses:

      Thanks,

      I understood.

The thing is that the antenna is not a simple metallic structure which can be solely EM simulated and added with ciruit part, rather some lumped componets (s2p files given) are placed inside the metal structure which needs to be simulated as a whole, cannot be separated. For example, PIN diode integrated antenna where s2p files of the PIN diodes in ON and OFF conditions are given.
