      Computation fails with following message:

Element 3933 (type = 1, SOLID187) (and maybe other elements) has become

highly distorted.  Excessive distortion of elements is usually a

symptom indicating the need for corrective action elsewhere.  Try

incrementing the load more slowly (increase the number of substeps or

decrease the time step size).  You may need to improve your mesh to

obtain elements with better aspect ratios.  Also consider the behavior

of materials, contact pairs, and/or constraint equations.  Please rule

out other root causes of this failure before attempting rezoning or

nonlinear adaptive solutions.  If this message appears in the first

iteration of first substep, be sure to perform element shape checking.

How do I apply the suggested solutions (bold)?

To apply the load more slowly, there are two methods that you can use. See this post and the next.

Element shape checking is automatically done when meshing in Mechanical, but it is still good to see which elements are having problems with convergence. That is another change you want to make, and that is to turn on the Newton-Raphson Residual Plots.

Moving to structural mechanics for better response.

In addition to what peter mentioned. Can you provide the material model and the Analysis settings you are using if you are still having problems? Here is another interesting discussion on this.
