Discovery Import

Saving an imported STEP-file

      Hi,

I try to save an ANSYS Discovery SpaceClaim 2019R3 file which was imported as STEP-file which was originally generated by SolidWorks both as STEP again or as Parasolid-file.

I received following message both for STEP but also Parasolid-save operation.

      What´s wrong with it?

      Thanks and regards

      Hello Ghost1246

Could you please make sure that you have sufficient space in the location where you would like to save the file? Could you also confirm that you have read-write permissions to the location where you are trying to save the file?
Could you try changing the file path for saving?

If the error persists, please share the log file created in the below path.

      C:UsersAppDataRoamingSpaceClaim

Hello Subashni, there is no problem with the writing rights. I had a discussion with a SWX-expert and he told me that the problem starts with the way the SWX-user export things. There are a lot of potential errors and it is just not a flat conversion and import. Even our SWX-expert had problems to export the imported file. We have to ask the sender to try another SWX-export format - not STEP but the native format, etc. I will send the log file later.

      Regards

      Wolfgang

      Hello Subashni,

we could solve the problem with the help of a combined SolidWorks/SpaceClaim partner. He found a lot of topological and geometrical problems in the STEP-file generated via SolidWorks. By fixing these errors, e.g. reorganisation of the parts provided in the STEP-file we could import the STEP-file in SpaceClaim at the end.

So it was a kind of corrupt geometry data and not an IT-issue and rights issue. The assembly is about 300 MB.

      Thanks for your help.

      Regards
