Share Topology or Frictionless

      Hello all,

Im doing a project in Ansys about 2 parts in contact with bolts. I eliminated the bolts and changed them for beam connection body-body. I make frictionless contact between the bodies aswell and later a contact sizing into the mesh.

Im wondering if I could substitute the Frictionless contact for the share topology to share the mesh and get better results. Is that possible (keep the beam connection body-body and substitute the Frictionless for share topology tool) or is it better to use frictionless because share topology has a bonded behaviour?

      Thanks in advance, Regards.

Hello Marcos, The choice between using frictionless contact or shared topology for modeling contacts in Ansys depends on the specific requirements and characteristics of your analysis. Frictionless contact allows sliding but no separation. Shared Topology occurs when bodies are grouped into multibody parts. It allows for a continuous mesh across common regions where bodies touch, instead of having to define Contact Regions. It is often, but not always, more desirable for the analysis to have a continuous mesh across the parts than to use contact. As you correctly mentioned, shared topology has a bonded behavior and therefore you should choose depending on the behavior you expect ( whether it is bonded or it is expected to see sliding)

        Hi,

Now I understand clearly the behaviour of share topology tool. Thanks!
