SubscriberDear ANSYS,nPlease how do I model/simulate Heat Transfer Fluid (HTF) leak from a 3/4 ball valve?nThe HTF is normally at 240 degC and flows from an insulated 6 line to the 3/4 line where the ball valve actually situate. The ball valve PTFE seat is suspected failed. I am interested in simulating/animating the HTF flow through the defective valve.nThanks for your anticipated support.nAyodele1. n -

AdministratorHello,nYou might want to extract the fluid geometry and use Ansys Fluent to solve for the heat transfer. For this, you might need to create a CAD of the defective valve. You can do this perhaps by visual inspection of the failed part. nTo run the simulation, you might need to know the information about the inlet velocity or overall mass flow rate through the pipe. The valve of course will not be moving. You will need to specify an appropriate outlet condition. nYou could use this example from our Ansys Innovation Courses (AICs) and set-up your problem similar to this. I am not clear about extracting the fluid geometry; does this imply suppressing the pipeline and using surface body?nI also do not know how to create the ball valve in SpaceClaim yet. Is there any available video/tutorial on step by step guide on creating CAD of the ball valve?nI have visually inspected the failed part.nThanks for your support.nAyodele1. n -

Forum ModeratorIn CFD we model the fluid, so we need the volume where the metal isn't. For heat transfer we may also need the metal parts. If you click on Help in SpaceClaim you'll find a load of videos and tutorials, do those. n -

SubscriberDear ANSYS,nI went through the below resources on AICs from ANSYS as advised above. I am quite interested in the content. I tried to follow the first example by accessing FLUENT from Workbench. I could not do anything with Geometry & Mesh, but launched FLUENT from Setup. I however did not find the downloaded mesh file under Read. I was only able to import the mesh file into the graphics window in FLUENT. I am wondering what could be responsible for this as the video says File, Read, Mesh? nArraySecondly, I did not see the option to save the case & data after my setup, please what could be wrong?nMany thanks for your guidance.nAyodele1. n -

Forum ModeratorYou're using Workbench: in there we import/export case data etc and save the project. Launch Fluent from the Start menu and you'll see Read/Write as per the instructions as you're working solely with the Fluent files and software. Don't worry, it confuses everyone first time. n -

However, I just searched from my Start button and surprisingly, did not find FLUENT under the ANSYS modules.
