Subscription Assignment Delay

Hi, I'm contacting on behalf of a customer: Here is his email to me: The other issue I discovered with the subscription license is that even after I unassigned myself from the subscription and assigned the licenses to another user and both of us have received the email notification of the assignment/assignment, it still showed that the licenses were assigned to me when I refreshed my browser. It looks like this may be related to the load on the PTC cloud server. After about 30 minutes, I finally saw the license status updated to reflect the correct assignment. I would like to know if this wait time is normal. Under normal usage we won't be switching users every half hour. I am trying to do this now as I want to test the toggling from subscription license to floating license. Now the opposite is happening: http://myaccount.ansys.com is showing that I don't have any assigned license and both trial licenses have been assigned to another user SG but it still showed 1 of 1 subscription license is being used even when both SG and I are not running ANSYS. When I try to run AIM on my computer, it still allows me to run the software even I have no license assignment from the cloud server. SG and I were both in subscription mode and both running AIM at the same time with only one trial subscription license. I confirmed using ANSLIC_ADMIN that the server license is not being used and I also temporarily deleted my ansyslmd.ini file so that I know fore sure I am using the subscription license. This doesn't seem normal either. A's account shows no subscriptions Moderators' Note: (Some Proprietary information was removed from this post in the interest of customer's privacy)

      Hello mpickard

Please go through my response to your queries as listed below.

      1. Regarding Subscription license assigning refresh time:
I'm not sure how long it could take for Subscription license assignment to refresh. I will have to consult the licensing team on this and find out if it could be faster than 30 mins or what is the average time it could take.

      2. Regarding the '1 of 1 subscriptions used':
In Subscription license, unlike Floating license, the customer need not be using the application but the assigning of the license itself is considered as 'used'.

      3. Regarding running application on two machines:
Once the Subscription is assigned to a user, the user is permitted to run the application on two unique Device IDs.
In this case, I suspect this is what could be happening and hence the application is running on two devices.
The customer, to whom the subscription is assigned can check in his 'My Subscriptions' page, the device ids that are using the Subscription license under his user name.
If the customer would like to deactivate on his machine, he can click on 'Release' against the device ID or use the command prompt for deactivation as mentioned in the post.

I hope I have addressed all your queries adequately. Please feel free to write to us if there is any further issue.

I will get back to you once I hear from the licensing team on #1.

      Hi  Subashni

Thanks for you reply. Regarding number 3, they only have 1 subscription but two different users with different logins were able to use Discovery AIM. I'm having the user check the device IDs that are active, but shouldn't the user that has no subscription not able to use any applications since the device ID is tied to a subscription that is assigned to another user?

      Hello mpickard

Once you have activated the Subscription for a user name on one system, the Subscription will not be removed until:

      1. You force a Subscription refresh using command prompt options as listed in this post.
      2. Or, you connect the system to the internet and run it the next day which will allow the licenses to automatically refresh.

If you re-activated as a new user on a different system but you are still able to run on the old system it could be because:

      1. The licenses have not yet refreshed and you will have to use command prompt and force a refresh.
      2. The old system is also using the new user id and recognising the old device as a second Device ID.

Now that I have clarified that, I would like to remind you that frequent reassignment of a subscription among multiple users is a violation of the license agreement.

Each subscription is meant for a single user.  We allow occasional reassignment for when users leave the company or change roles.  It is based on an "honour system", but ANSYS reserves the right to disable subscriptions when abuse is detected.
