      Hi everyone,

I want to make a model for XFEM analysis consist of a hole at the middle of a plate.

I have 10 keypoints and 4 areas. but when i make a subtraction of a solid circle at the middle of the plate using bulean operator 4 more keypoints are going to be generated and also area numbering raised to 7 while there exist only 4 areas.

      your suggestions are highly appreciated.

This is the expected behavior of Booleans in Mechanical APDL.  What type of suggestion are you looking for?  You could just continue on and accept the numbering.  Or you could compress the area numbers.  Please see the follow Help entries:

ANSYS Help -> Mechanical APDL -> Command Reference -> N Commands -> NUMCMP

ANSYS Help -> Mechanical APDL -> Modeling and Meshing Guide -> Chapter 5.4 Sculpting Your Model with Boolean Operations.  Especially figure 5.18

Thank you Mike for your valuable answer.

I do not need extra keypoints and also i need my model areas to be number from 1 to 4 that ?s why i asked this question.

      your answer was helpful BTW.

      Sohrab,
