“The allowed maximum number of layers is exceeded” happens even w/ only 2 layers

The full error message is "An error occurred inside the SOLVER module: The allowed maximum number of layers is exceeded." My geometry is a 2d plane with a layered section. its 12 mm by 1 meter long. Initially, i had 1 90 cm section and another 10 cm section together, each having 5 layeres in a layered section. but even when i reduce it to only 2, it still doesn't work. I am on the student lisence. how do i fix this?
