SubscriberI am using Ansys 2022 R2 student version. I'm doing static analyses on simple shapes ie. cylindrical, rectangular, etc. . When I run the solution, I keep getting the error "An unknown error occurred during solution. Check the Solver Output on the Solution Information object for possible causes." I don't get any warning/error about too many nodes/elements and my nodes/elements are around 10k give or take, much less than th 32k allowed for the student version. I have been able to get a solution sometimes if I increase the mesh size significantly for ex. to 0.75" for a cylinder that is only 1 inch long but if I reduced mesh size to say 0.5" I get the error. Can anyone help?

SubscriberI tried but am unable to locate the file on my C:\drive. The file path that Ansys provided in the "Solution Information" is below but it doesn't seem like it created the file or the file folders. Not sure if I am missing something in searching for the file but I went to "C:\Users\lastname" but there is not an "AppData" folder there. I also did a "C:\drive" search for the file name "file.err" but nothing was found.
Note: I substituted "lastname" for privacy reasons in the path below.
Below is from "Solution Information"

Ansys EmployeeHello,
Please save your project. For example, I saved a project to directory named "2023R1_test". I saved the project using the project name "xsient_piezo_acoustic". This will create directories such as those shown below. Several levels below the directory named "xsient_piezo_acoustic_files" ("your_project_name_files"), you will see a directory named "MECH". In the MECH directory there are two text files that may contain the reason(s) the run was not sucessful (solve.out & file .err). Please inspect these using any text editor (e.g., notepad).
Happy New Year,
Bill

SubscriberI saved the project per above. Below is what the "file.err" file had and last part of the "solve.out" file. I didn't see any errors in either file so not sure where to go from here.

The Sparse Matrix Solver is currently running in the in-core memory
mode. This memory mode uses the most amount of memory in order to
avoid using the hard drive as much as possible, which most often
results in the fastest solution time. This mode is recommended if
enough physical memory is present to accommodate all of the solver
data. -

Ansys EmployeeDo you get this error for simple geometries as well? Or do you get it for specific ones?

SubscriberYes, I am now getting this error in the "file.err" file for both simple and more complicated geometry. I originally did not on a simple part geometry I did a static analysis on. I did find another thread post that referenced "Mechanical APDL crashes with “SIG$ILL” during solving" and the thread said to add "-blas intel" under solve process settings>Advanced then in the Additional Command Line Arguments field add "-blas intel" without the quotes. I did this and both the simple and more complicated models static analyses work and solved.

Ansys Employeeok are you using shared memory parallel or distributed memory parallel? Check the physical cores available (N) on your machine, (Not Logical Processors) and run a simple model first using shared memory parallel (i.e. uncheck the Distributed checkmark) using N - 2 or N - 4 cores.

SubscriberI unchecked "distribute solution (if possible)" in solver process settings>advanced and removed "-blas intel" and ran a simple square tube beam with a load and one end fixed and it would not solve. The "file.err" file only had 2 warnings shown below. I then checked "distribute solution (if possible)" and added back the "-blas intel" in the Additional Command Line Arguments field and re-ran model which then solved.
Entire contents of "file.err" file are below.
