Unstructured ICEM Prism ERROR

    • CMHR

I tried to mesh a 3D wing on ICEM using an unstructured approach. However, every time I check for "create prism layers" under the volume mesh tab, I receive an error, as stated below. This error appears right after the mesh is generated but has no inflation layer yet.

running on Windows (64 bit version)

      reading surface model...

      failed to allocated 12252 megabytes

to store 72995899 tets of 176 bytes each

could not allocated -37623664 bytes for 72995899 tetras

      Application is finished.

      Error: prism terminated prematurely>>

Can you please explain why this occurs? I understand that it's a memory issue, but I can not reduce the cell sizes on my wing, or else the mesh does not follow my geometry.

      Thank you very much.

Yes, it looks like memory issue. Can you please create coarse mesh or reduce problem size by using some symmetry etc.

Hi, Thank you for your reply.
It worked out in the end. I just refined on some areas and made everywhere else coarse. Just a follow-up, what do you mean by, "reduce problem size by using some symmetry"?
      Thank you.

If your geometry /flow has symmetry then you can only use that portion instead of full geometry.
