What is Pressure Gradient?

      Hello friends,

I'm reading that pressure gradient is important to understand flow separation. I don't fully understand what 'pressure gradient' means?

      I'd really appreciate your help.

      Thank you.

      Hello,

Pressure gradient is defined as the rate of variation of pressure in space. This is primarily responsible for the fluid flow and describes its flow direction and magnitude. If you take a simple pipe, fluid flows from higher to lower pressure. The pressure gradient in this pipe is, mathematically, equal to the pressure difference over the length of the pipe. In this example, the pressure gradient is negative.

I hope this clarifies what pressure gradient means.
