why does trim feature not work as it should on space claim

when i trim a chord of a circle on space claim the circle center is getting shifted why does it happen.

I am trying to trim out line 1 or 2 when i do that the centre of the circle shifts and the sector of the circle becomes a semicircle like this

please tell me how to get stop the shift of the center

Yes I did use trim tool in the sketch.

I couldn't find anything useful in help that's why I posted this problem here. (I would use other design software (even though I make a model using VBA, there are some other problems which I don't want to bring it to this discussion) but I am using space claim because of it's scripting feature in python which makes my modelling process easy.

Judging by the colors of the circle and line, it appears the circle is not constrained, while the line is fully constrained in the sketch, is that right?

I tried to duplicate the same on my end but seems to be working as expected.

Would need some more information about your specific problem, would constraining the circle center before using the "Trim Away" tool help? One more thing I noticed is you don't have the default Grid, is that something you turned off intentionally?

I dont know how the grid got switched off and i don't know how to switch it on.

I thought about the constrained part that the circle may not be constrained..but when i do so ansys does not constrain it well

      see this

the center is at 0.398mm whereas the line is at 0.4mm

i want that 2micro meter distance between them (this is one of the reasons i stopped making the model solidworks thinking space claim will give me a better model)

Check the unit system of Spaceclaim. If the dimensions in sketch are very small then it may cause this problem.

I am in the lowest possible unit that space claim can give (mm)

there is no option of a micron in space claim.

is space claim limited to mm? does it not go below that?

      Hi Satri,

As suggested by Aniket and Rahul, it looks like the issue is because of the small dimensions. You can use the micrometer as a units to draw the sketch. You have to set units before you start a new design in SpaceClaim.

      Thank you,

I checked that it never allowed me to change the units lower than mm.

But it worked when i started the new document. it doesn't allow you to change the value on the fly i guess.

      this fixed the problem.

but on a separate note i was also able to fix the problem without changing the units, if i make those vertical lines with the script and still have mm as units i can trim off the outer sector without shifting the center.

anyway changing the units of the document is a much better and cleaner solution.

      thank you
