Forum ModeratorHow much RAM have you got? nDecember 2, 2020 at 1:16 pmhilooi
Subscriber64GB, that was what I meant by memorynDecember 2, 2020 at 3:17 pmRob
Forum ModeratorMissed that, if you check system load what does the machine think it's using? nDecember 2, 2020 at 4:07 pmhilooi
SubscriberHow am I able to check the system load? Using task manager?nDecember 2, 2020 at 4:34 pmRob

SubscriberWhen the initialization (preparing run step) is going both my CPU and RAM are being utilized by the solver.mpi under the workbench; however, when that process finishes it never initializes the solver.mpis to actually solve the model as it would normally (seen on other computers)nDecember 2, 2020 at 4:39 pmDrAmine
Ansys EmployeeIn average at least 2 GB of memory per million cell. You definitely require more RAM.nDecember 2, 2020 at 4:41 pmRob
Forum ModeratorIt'll be trying to page to disc and that could take a while. nDecember 2, 2020 at 4:50 pmhilooi
SubscriberI run the same model on a computer with 32gb RAM and it runs perfectly fine... I'm not sure it's a RAM issue as I've tried a model with less cells and it still was not running correctly. nRob, what do you mean by page to disc?nDecember 2, 2020 at 8:09 pmDrAmine

Yes can work but you are at the limit. Can you perhaps try launching in batch on the machine? Is the definition file on that machine and the working directories is local? Can you try starting with large problems definition turned on? Please paste some more context of the outfile.nDecember 2, 2020 at 9:19 pmhilooi
SubscriberI will add more screenshots when I get home, but in the meantime what do you mean by launching in batch? Also I do have large problems definition turned on, however I'm not sure whether the definition file is on the machine or whether the working directories is local; can you elaborate on how I can find that information?nDecember 3, 2020 at 4:03 amDecember 3, 2020 at 9:11 amDrAmine
Ansys EmployeeYou are running using the Workbench (as far as I can identify) is this correct? nDebugging this kind of problems requires time and luck (especially as we from Ansys do not ask for files). Can you try using another number of CPU's, another partitioner ( I do not thinkg the issue is related to this), another Parallel method, disabling FireWalls and Defenders and AntiVirus.nDecember 3, 2020 at 1:12 pmhilooi
SubscriberHi by another number of CPU's do you mean a new CPU? I have tried both IBM and Intel partitioners, they have a similar issue. by parallel method do you refer to running parallels with multiple PCs, as I probably do not have access to that. I can try disabling firewalls, defenders and antiviruses; but I tried that before and it had no success. Is there anything else anyone here can think of or anyway to get more help on this? Thank you.nDecember 3, 2020 at 1:30 pmDrAmine
Ansys EmployeeWith number I meant trying 4 instead of the requested 7 processes.nDecember 3, 2020 at 1:56 pmhilooi
SubscriberI have tried using 2 and it still didn't work, I can try 4 to see if there is a differencenDecember 3, 2020 at 2:05 pmDrAmine
Ansys EmployeeAre you experiencing similar problems with similar cases on the machine or does it happen onyl for this particular case?nDecember 3, 2020 at 2:06 pmDrAmine
Ansys EmployeeI do not expect that it will run now with 4 if you already tried with 2. You said that you were able to run on serial, can you confirm that?nDecember 3, 2020 at 2:34 pmhilooi
SubscriberYes i can confirm that I was able to run it on serial and it happens for every case; for my original application there is one mesh element at boundaries so serial isn't applicable there, but for the one i recently posted it was simply a cube and I ran that one using serial; but parallel does not work for either.nDecember 3, 2020 at 3:00 pmDrAmine
Ansys EmployeeSo the case you are trying now is a cube?nDecember 3, 2020 at 3:04 pmhilooi
SubscriberYes it is simply a cube 10mx10mx10m with a mesh size of 0.1m elementsnDecember 3, 2020 at 3:07 pmDrAmine
Ansys EmployeeI will contact you per mail.nDecember 4, 2020 at 4:29 amhilooi
SubscriberA little bit of an update, I tried downloading ANSYS 2020R2 student version and running it, the same problem is occurring. Furthermore, when I try to initialize fluent on either serial or parallel it does not work either (on the ANSYS 19.2 version i had and the ANSYS 2020R2 version). It is almost certainly my computer, any idea of what could be causing this would be amazing; whether it be MOBO issue or any other hardware, driver or anything else. Thank you.nDecember 4, 2020 at 10:39 amRob
Forum ModeratorFluent loads, but then fails to initialise? Any errors or does it hang? Check the disc space for the temp folders, too. nDecember 5, 2020 at 6:30 amDecember 7, 2020 at 9:04 amDrAmine
