SubscriberHi. In my case the workbench stopped working after a win10 update. It simply doesnt open anymore (no error messages). I tried the suggestions mentioned in this link (https://forum.ansys.com/forums/topic/student-v-19-2-quits-right-after-loadiing/) but none of them worked.
What should I do? Thank you very much. Bruna

Ansys EmployeeHi Bruna,
Can you try reinstalling ANSYS after this win10 update ?
What is the graphics card you have on the machine ?
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Bruna,
Try updating your Intel graphics driver to the latest.
Also, open Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application -> Look for the incident that says 'Error' and see if you there is any incident related to ANSYS. If there is, please post screenshot of the details of it.
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Bruna,
Thanks for the info.
There is a known defect for installation with German locale. Let's see if you have that issue.
Do you have any .err file under C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Student
Also, for a quick test, please try turning off Windows Firewall and Windows Defender Virus Protection and any other security tools that you may have on the machine. If this helps, we can turn them back on and just add exclusions.
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Bruna,
Hmm, let's try this.
Go to your C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv194prereq folder , then manually run all of the executable's here one-by-one.
Then, go to your %appdata% folder and rename the entire %appdata%ansys folder.
It may also be worth to try updating or rolling back your graphics driver.
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeThat's great news !
I'm glad it's working now.
Could you mark this thread as 'resolved' ('Is Solution') , so we know there is a resolution for this issue ?
Thanks,

SubscriberHi Win,
apparently my win 10 updates every month. After this last update, the workbench doesn't open anymore. I tried to repeat all the steps that worked last time, but no success. Would you have any other suggestion?
Thanks,
Bruna

SubscriberHi Win,
thanks for your message. Apparently, 3 things were installed:
KB4346087: Microcodeupdates von Intel
KB890830: Remove specific prevalent malware with Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool
KB4512517: Updates to improve security when using external devices (such as game controllers and web cameras), Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Bluetooth, networking technologies, and input devices such as a mouse, keyboard, or stylus.
I already tried reinstalling Ansys, but the workbench still doesn't work.
Thanks,
Bruna

Ansys EmployeeHi Bruna,
Just for a test, can you uninstall KB4512517 and see if you can use ANSYS again ? If so, we will try to narrow down what are included in this update.
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Bruna,
What about the other two KB's ? If you uninstall them too ?
If that still doesn't work, try reinstall ANSYS again.
If that still doesn't work, this issue has nothing to do with this Windows update. We will have to look at others.
Thanks,
Win

SubscriberHi Win
that didn't work either. Maybe it was a coincidence the software stopped working after the updates.
Thanks for your help,

Ansys EmployeeHi Bruna,
Hmm, let's take a step back. So, this issue, is it exactly the same symptom as earlier ? Like Workbench hangs and no error messages, etc. ?
Is there any error showing in the Event Viewer ?
Thanks,
Win

SubscriberHi Win,
thanks for the help.
yes, it's exactly the same symptom as earlier. When I launch the workbench I get the Ansys logo and then it starts loading something but suddenly I get the message that the workbench stopped working. No specific error message.
I can see the same two errors in the Event Viewer as last time:
Thanks,
Bruna

Also, can you try updating graphics driver ?
Thanks,

Ansys EmployeeThis is odd.
Let's try these:
1. Open CMD Prompt, then issue the following command
move "%appdata%ansys" "%appdata%ansys.old"
2. Open elevated CMD Prompt, right click on CMD and 'run as administrator', then issue the following commands
regsvr32.exe ole32.dll
regsvr32.exe atl.dll
regsvr32.exe oleaut32.dll
regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll
regsvr32.exe jscript.dll
regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll
3. Open CMD Prompt, then issue the following commands
set PATH=C:WINDOWSsystem32;C:WINDOWS;C:WINDOWSSystem32Wbem
"%awp_root194%FrameworkbinWin64runwb2.exe"
4. Open elevated CMD Prompt right click on CMD and 'run as administrator', then issue the following command
"%awp_root194%productconfig.exe"
this will launch Product & CAD Configuration GUI. Click Install Required Prerequisites, make sure it's successful, then click Configure Products & CADs and make sure that you select all products to be configured.
Does any of these help ?
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Bruna,
That's great to hear !
I think it's either #1 or #2 but I'm not sure either.
Anyway, I'm glad it works for you now.
Thanks,
Win
