What does the loss mean (which kind of loss it is) in the FDE straight waveguide simulation???

What does the loss mean (which kind of loss it is) in the FDE straight waveguide simulation??? In the tutorial video the loss is 0, but in my simulation, the loss has a value. I would like to know why? Many thanks.

    Hi,

    Thanks for reaching out. This represents the propagations loss and stems from the imaginary part of index (and depends on wavelength). More background and some of the theory is presented here.
